Scary movies are hard to NOT watch.
Like a train wreck.
I was watching Miss Peregrin's Home for Peculiar Children.
Yes.
The one made about the kid's book.
(HOW ITS A KIDS BOOK I DUNNO!!!)
And it was mildly terrifying.
However it did not start that way.
No.
It was written really well.
It captivated you.
It made you wonder.
It caught your breath with the creativeness.
The story line was quite brilliant.
Then.
BOOM.
Freaky stuff started to happen.
I actually had to pause the movie.
It was just too much.
I got a pudding cup to give me time to cope.
As I was opening the pudding cup I was telling myself,
"You know Em... you don't HAVE to finish it."
Yet.
I wanted to know how a happy ending would come from it.
Or rather IF a happy ending would come of it...
And it ended very well.
There were virtually NO plot holes.
Tim Burton is a good director.
Anyways.
I got to thinking.
Because that is what I do best.
Think.
I started to wonder why SO MANY childrens books contains monsters.
So many do.
BFG.
Miss Peregrin's Home for Perculiar Children
Narnia
Series of Unfortunate Events
etc.
And I have a theory.
This theory is that authors can see things normal people can't.
It's true.
A lot of authors see the world so very different.
As any artist does.
Perhaps...
The authors are trying to warn children of the monsters the world holds.
Anger.
Hate.
Unforgiveness.
Jealousy.
Greed.
Fear.
Depression.
Constant conflict.
And so many more..
And though the monsters of the world do not always LOOK terrifying...
They don't look like some convoluted slenderman/ood combo..
They are there and they affect our world none the less.
And you know the thing about these authors.
They show there are ways to defeat the monsters of the world.
Bravery.
Team work.
Family.
Putting aside differences.
Being clever as you.
Every one of these books shows that the characters GREW.
The character grew and defeated the monster.
And that..
I think that is important to see.
The author shows us HOW to defeat the monster.
In their funny ways they really do.
I used to love the BFG and Matilda.
I loved the outcome.
The monsters didn't scare me when I was little.
Because the authors told me they could be defeated.
And they can.
And guess what?
We have something book characters do not.
We have God on our side.
God is bigger than the boogie man you know
(Yes. That is a veggie tales thing... deal with it!)
God is never going to leave us nor forsake us.
He protects us.
He guides us.
He has armies of angels you know.
When I was little I had two favorite testimonies.
Both were about girls in the city.
(Makes sense. I used to live in the city).
The first one was about this girl walking down the street alone
She was confident in Christ and walked with no fear.
However, there were this group of bad dudes.
They had NO good intentions.
Yet something stopped them.
With this girl...
There were these two really big dudes. One on each side of her.
Did I mention she had been ALONE?!
God sent angels to protect her and scare off the bad dudes.
Then there was another one.
She was about to get shot.
She had told her about-to-be-shooter about Jesus.
He was going to shoot her.
His gun jammed.
The trigger wouldn't move.
God sent protection.
I have heard story after story after story about how God has protected his children.
Each one has blown me away in awe about how marvelous He is.
I have even had my own experiences with God's protection!
So yeah.
There are monsters out there.
But God is bigger than ALL of them.
So you have nothing to fear.
Not a single thing.
And when you have your human moments (We all do) and you do become afraid, all you must do is call out to him, and he will give you peace.
He protects his kids.
Isn't he such a good father?!
