Did you know that we are like driftwood?
I had this really great devotion today.
So.
I am going to try to explain it.
Imagine we are all trees. Okay?
Just pretend.
And pretend that our trees are by the ocean (Because who doesn't want to be by the ocean.)
Fine.
If you don't like the ocean you can be by a lake or a pond or even a river.
We are just minding our tree business.
When a storm comes along.
Now we have been through storms before.
A little rain never hurt right?
A little thunder is okay.
But.
This storm.
This storm is unlike anything we have ever felt before.
In fact.
This storm breaks us.
We end up falling over and drifting in your choice body of water.
We feel broken.
We feel useless.
We feel like... what's the point?
Then we float.
We just float along, not really caring where we end up.
But as we are floating we feel something eating away at us.
We start to feel bitter.
We start to feel angry.
We start to take our anger out on people who don't deserve it.
There is this "Bacteria" eating away at us.
And if we let it...
It will COMPLETELY consume us.
There will be nothing left.
However, we can float back to shore.
We don't have to be consumed.
And when we get to shore.
We find we have been smoothed out.
Even more beautiful than before.
Those hard knots are gone.
We are soft and pliable now.
Nothing wrong with that.
Let me explain this rather weird metaphor.
When something bad happens.
I mean really bad happens.
Something that really sucks.
We can feel like we are drifting.
Away from our friends.
Away from our families.
Away from God.
And as we are floating through life.
Lying about whether we are okay or not.
Acting like we are fine.
Trying to be tough and independent.
Because why should we concern someone with our problems?
Then we start feeling this situation eat at us.
It starts to consume us.
Anger starts building up.
And we don't know what to do.
So we keep drifting.
We feel like we might drift forever.
That we won't ever be fixed.
That we won't ever be worthy.
That we are forever ruined.
But we aren't.
Once we start letting people help.
THIS IS IMPORTANT.
Letting people help is so so important.
Once we start letting people help..
We start drifting in a set direction.
If the right people help... we can even drift closer to God.
We won't be drifting forever.
God is shaping us.
Yeah it feels like the situation is HUGE.
But God is bigger than the boogie man.
Bigger than Godzilla or the monsters on TV.
And he is surely bigger than our problems.
When our feet hit solid land again.
(As long as we don't let our situation consume us.)
We will find that we have been smoothed out.
Shaped beautifully.
Pliable.
We can then help those who are drifting like we had been.
Don't forget you are beautiful.
You are more beautiful than your situation makes you feel.
Have a good day friends.
