This sounded like a terrible idea!
I did NOT want to go to school.
It sounded like an awful place!
However, my mom won out and took me to the school to get tested. On my way to the school, I came up with a plan.
A brilliant plan.
An excellent plan.
An EVIL plan!
Fail the test.
If I got all the questions wrong, the school would think I didn't know anything and would let me stay home! I was all of a sudden excited to take this test! Being the five year old that I was, I wanted to tell someone! I obviously couldn't tell my mom! So I kept quiet in the car. When we got to the school, my mom was talking with someone and I saw this beautiful lady. I mean she was the most pretty lady I had ever seen, her hair was curly and she had a nice smile. So I started talking to her.
I decided I could tell her, I mean, I didn't know her so I told her. I said, "Guess what?!" And she asked me, "What?" I took a deep breath and said in my rapid lisping way, "I am going to fail the test so that I can stay home with my mom!" and the lady smiled,
"that is very smart of you!" in which I smugly replied, "I know!"
Needless to say, I got every question wrong! I said circles were triangles and pretended like I couldn't read or anything! I was quite proud of my performance.
So I am sure you could imagine my shock when one day after my mom got the mail she excitedly said, "Emi-lou! You get to start school!!!!"
I almost spilled the beans right there because I couldn't figure out how!!!
The night came when we had to take the school supplies to our new classroom and meet the teacher.
Oh I was in the foulest of moods!
Who could have figured out my brilliant plan?!
I walked into the classroom, and the teacher walked up to me and smiled....
guess who?
The pretty lady.
The pretty lady that I had told was, in fact, my kindergarten teacher!
My mom told me a few years later that my teacher had gone to the board and told them what I had told her. She said that because I had failed the test on purpose I must be smart! The board agreed and gave me to her as a student. (I was quite the problem child!)
Then, the day after my graduation after telling someone this story, my mom turns to me and says. "Em, did you know that I went to college with Miss Luther?"
I GOT DOUBLE WHAMMIED!!!
MY MOM KNEW THE WHOLE TIME WHAT I HAD DONE!!!
Miss Luther had called my mom and told her, THAT DAY, what I had done!!!!!
My mom played dumb!
BUT I GOT BLINDSIDED!!!
BAMBOOZLED!!!!!
Even though I didn't want to go to school, after a while I did enjoy kindergarten a lot. In fact, because of Miss luther, I am going to become a kindergarten teacher! What was your kindergarten like?
